LUX Correspondent Maria Webster reports from D-Resort Göcek, a harmonious, characterful corner in the Turkish Riviera

My first experience of Göcek, a beautiful coastal town situated between Fethiye and Dalyan on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, began with a wonderful stay at D-Resort Göcek – a true beach hideaway that perfectly captures the essence of relaxed luxury.

Nestled among pine trees, with a protected harbour so beloved by the international yachting community, the resort is just a short drive from Dalaman Airport, making it wonderfully accessible while still feeling like a secluded escape.

While destinations such as Bodrum have become increasingly popular and, in many areas, more developed and busier over the years, Göcek still feels like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Located in the Muğla region, this charming coastal town has retained its authentic character and a more understated atmosphere, attracting a growing number of travellers looking for something beyond the traditional tourist hotspots. With its natural beauty, crystal-clear waters, untouched bays and relaxed pace of life, Göcek is quietly becoming one of Turkey’s most desirable destinations.

Perhaps one of the best reflections of Göcek’s unique charm came from my conversation with D-Resort Göcek’s Director, Demet Gürer Gönenli. She shared that she originally came to work at the resort for just one season but quickly fell in love with Göcek and the unique lifestyle it offers, eventually making it her long-term home. Her story says so much about the magic of this place – a destination that has a way of capturing people’s hearts and making them want to stay a little longer.

Unlike many coastal resorts that focus mainly on the summer season, D-Resort Göcek welcomes guests throughout the year. Each season offers a different experience – from long, sun-filled days spent by the sea during the summer months to a more peaceful and intimate atmosphere in winter. While some of the resort’s outdoor facilities and seasonal areas close during the colder months, the spirit of D- Resort remains, allowing guests to experience the natural beauty of Göcek in a quieter and more relaxed setting.

What I particularly loved was the hotel’s location. Set right in the heart of Göcek, D- Resort has direct gated access into the town, allowing guests to easily wander through its charming streets. Göcek has such a wonderful atmosphere – a place filled with authentic restaurants overlooking the beautiful marina, stylish independent boutiques, jewellery stores, Turkish ceramics, sailing shops and gourmet food stores.

One of my favourite discoveries was Servet, a beautiful little shop selling authentic Turkish teas, coffees, Turkish delights, spices, shea butter and olive oil. It is the kind of place where you can happily lose track of time – well, I certainly could! Many guests enjoy slow mornings by the resort’s beach before strolling into Göcek in the evening for a little shopping and dinner by the marina.

For those who enjoy exploring at a slower pace, D-Resort Göcek also offers e-bikes for guests to discover the surrounding area. Some members of our group enjoyed exploring Göcek on two wheels, discovering picturesque corners and taking in the natural beauty of the coastline. The region is also a wonderful destination for hiking, with scenic routes through pine forests and breathtaking views for those who prefer to explore on foot.

What struck me most when I arrived at D-Resort Göcek was the feeling of space and tranquillity. Despite the hotel being fully occupied, it somehow felt as though the entire resort belonged to me. This trip was planned as a small escape – a chance to completely unwind on the Turquoise Coast, spend time in and on the water, enjoy long lunches overlooking the crystal-clear Mediterranean waters and forest-covered islands, indulge in wellness treatments, and discover exceptional cuisine. It truly delivered everything I had hoped for.

My Deluxe Room immediately felt like a peaceful Mediterranean sanctuary. Beautifully designed in a calming palette of white and blue, with natural wood details and a marble bathroom, it also featured a private balcony overlooking Göcek’s marina and lush gardens.

On my first evening, I visited Olives Restaurant, where guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant celebrates authentic Turkish cuisine, with dishes prepared using carefully selected organic ingredients. From delicious mezes and perfectly cooked fish and meat to fresh, healthy salads, every dish reflected the richness and simplicity of Turkish flavours.

The following morning, we explored more of what the resort has to offer, including its beautiful private beach. Thoughtfully designed, the beach is divided into different areas, with family-friendly spaces as well as quieter decked areas for those seeking privacy. Each sun lounger has its own dedicated QR code, allowing guests to effortlessly order food and drinks directly to their own space – a small detail that makes the experience feel incredibly personalised.

D-Resort even has its own yacht, Sundowner, for guests to explore the bays around Göcek

Late morning and into the early afternoon, we boarded Sundowner, D-Resort Göcek’s stylish and modern yacht. With an experienced captain and crew looking after us throughout the journey, we explored some of the most beautiful bays around Göcek. Swimming in the turquoise waters, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and untouched nature, was an unforgettable experience.

A delicious fresh fruit platter was served onboard, along with water, tea, coffee and refreshments. For those who enjoy matcha, there is even a charming little boat that visits different bays, allowing guests to order their favourite drinks while relaxing on the water.

Later that afternoon, we visited D’Breeze, the resort’s signature waterfront restaurant. Set directly on the beach with beautiful views across the sea, the restaurant offers Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with a focus on fresh, local ingredients. We enjoyed freshly grilled sea bass and sea bream caught locally, beetroot with feta, refreshing watermelon salad, and traditional pide and lahmacun freshly prepared in the wood-fired oven. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour.

D’Breeze is equally magical in the evening. We returned later that night for dinner, with our table positioned on the jetty overlooking the marina. Watching the sunset while dining above the water was one of the most memorable moments of the trip – we could even see fish swimming beneath us as we enjoyed our meal.

The evening ended with beautifully prepared cocktails, including an Aegean Spritz and a Mojito. For those feeling adventurous, the talented bar team can even create bespoke cocktails using seasonal Turkish ingredients such as pomegranate, fresh citrus, mint, basil and local herbs.

The next day brought time for pure relaxation at D-Spa Göcek, where I experienced the most soothing full-body signature massage. Using premium aromatherapy oils combined with reflexology techniques, the treatment was designed to improve circulation, release tension and deeply relax both body and mind. It was the perfect balance between relaxation and therapeutic care, especially after travelling. The spa also offers a beautiful selection of premium skincare products, massage oils and wellness items used during the treatments.

Of course, no stay at D-Resort Göcek would be complete without an evening at Q Lounge, the resort’s most glamorous dining destination. Perched above the bay among the pine trees, it offers spectacular sunset views, stylish music from the resident DJ and a beautifully elegant open-air setting.

One of the most memorable spots at Q Lounge is the large natural wooden bench nestled among the pine trees, overlooking the bay. More than simply a place to sit, it has become a special viewpoint and a perfect photo moment, where guests can pause with a cocktail, capture a beautiful photograph and take in the incredible landscape around them. It is one of those simple yet thoughtful touches that creates a lasting memory.

This was where I spent my final evening, and it was truly unforgettable. Our table was reserved just before sunset, offering breathtaking views across Göcek Bay we could all enjoy, as the sky changed colour.

The design of Q Lounge is also part of what makes the experience so special. Created by the designers behind the internationally recognised Zuma concept, the space brings together a sophisticated approach to dining where design, atmosphere and experience come together beautifully. While Q Lounge is not part of the Zuma restaurant group, it shares a similar appreciation for exceptional design, attention to detail and creating memorable dining moments.

Q Lounge specialises in contemporary Japanese cuisine with Peruvian influences – known as Nikkei cuisine. Designed for sharing, the menu features beautifully crafted sushi and sashimi, Wagyu beef from the robata grill, black cod and an exceptional selection of fresh seafood.

The restaurant is also renowned for its creative cocktail programme, featuring Japanese-inspired creations, yuzu and citrus-based drinks, as well as an impressive wine list with around 150 labels.

D-Resort Göcek is a place that will remain in my memory for a very long time. Surrounded by nature, the sea and the warmth of Turkish hospitality, it is somewhere that allows you to truly switch off and enjoy the beauty of the moment.

I know I will return.
